Tell Us About Your Shop and Yourself..
Handmade objects always have a story. They have a real character and charm over mass-produced items. I’ve been crafting for years and love every minute of it – it’s my relaxation time – just put on a few tunes and away I go! Some of the crafting I’ve done in the past involves sewing, ceramics, crocheting, knitting, plastic canvas…..and now I love to make unique items out of books and records. I opened up my shop here on Etsy in 2007 and have sold my items to customers all over the world – which is exciting. My most exciting buyer was a movie star!!!!! My shop name tells you I’m a Grandma that loves retro. I love all my family! They mean the world to me 🙂 I have 3 wonderful children and 6 adorable grandchildren.
When did you first get into crafts, and have you always been into recycled/upcycled crafts?
I’ve been into crafts since I was very young. My mom was a tremendous crafter herself and she passed this talent down to me.
What is the story and inspiration behind your work? What do you do when you get a creative block, how do you get inspired again?
I love creating something unique that you will never find in any stores and each and every item of mine is unique.
When I have people all over the world purchase and use my items it gives me a good feeling inside and that’s what I think of whenever I get a creative block.
When did you first get into crafting and art? Do you typically work with the same mediums?
I started off sewing and crocheting. I made most of my children’s clothes and decorated my home with handmade curtains, bedspreads, tablecloths and so much more I can’t even mention!!! I’ve done ceramics, plastic canvas, needlework….you name it – I did it!
What project are you most proud of ever making?
My book purses are what I am the most proud of. It’s so cool to watch heads turn when I walk downtown with one of these. Most of my items are sure to spark conversations!
What do you like to do for fun when your not making art? What is the one things people would be shocked to know about you?
I also have a full time day job at a school as an Administrative Assistant – it is 29 years this year since I started! I love spending time with my family – especially my 6 grandchildren! I also love being with my friends and listening to music. I also enjoy hunting for treasures at thrift shops and garage sales. Most of my home decor is from the 70’s – I love that era – A Blast from the Past!!!
Why do you think the Eco-Friendly, Recycled, Upcycled Movment is so important? What is your one best tip for a small change anyone can make in their life to be kinder to the environment?
Handmade items have a real character and charm over mass-produced items. We should all recycle and reduce waste. This would make a better world for all of us.
