I see old sewing patterns all over the darn place…. thrift stores, yard sales, my grandmas sewing room and even in the trash.  Let’s face it, patterns get out of date and are sometimes useless, this is a wonderful way to reuse the paper, it can add a nice rustic and vintage touch to any room.  When cutting out your squares, you can use any size, the bigger the square the bigger the flower, just work with what scrap patterns you have.  I cut mine about 6 in X 6 in.

Gather all of the square pieces of paper you cut out and align them on top of one another, then fold it accordion style.  When your done, get some old wire, I used old telephone wire here, and twist the carefully folded accordion sewing patterns.  Then get a wire hanger piece the height you want your stem to be.  Use floral tape, either green or white to twist the flower wire onto it.  Last step is a delicate one, be patient and peal the layers of tissue paper back until you get your desired shape of a flower.  Note to self…. don’t layer too many square pieces, or its near impossible to open up the paper, I did about 8 sheets… It seems anymore than 12 would be pretty hard to peel back and open to a flower shape.
